Cormòns

It's the main center of the Collio area, near Gorizia. With an Austro-Hungarian flair, it's surrounded by characteristic villages at the border with Slovenia, and enriched by Central European influences.
A unique microclimate The main town of the enchanting hilly area called Collio, near Gorizia, is Cormòns, a beautiful Habsburg-style town; it is surrounded by small and characteristic villages on the border with Slovenia, such as Dolegna del Collio, San Floriano del Collio, Savogna d'Isonzo, where people speak a Slavic language. Here, the mountains and the sea are close to each other: the microclimate, which is absolutely unique due to the ventilation and to the temperature range, is perfectly combined with the "ponka", the characteristic soil of the Collio, ideal for vine growing.Central-European influences are translated into special cakes and sweets such as favette, presnitz and putizza. But there are also other delicacies: plum dumplings, the sweet ham from Cormòns, smoked in the fire of cherry and laurel wood or, a delicacy for few, the red radicchio "Rosa di Gorizia".
