An industrial hub with a rich historical and cultural heritage. Visit the medieval Fortress, a symbol of the city, the Paleontological Museum, and the Town Gallery of Contemporary Art, one of the most important exhibition spaces dedicated to contemporary art in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Monfalcone is not just an important industrial centre. The town also features important historical aspects, such as in the medieval fortress, a monument that is the symbol of the town. Inside it you will find the Paleontological Museum, with finds that illustrate geological history starting from 500 million years ago.On the other hand, the Marcelliana Church, which has been renovated several times over the centuries, stands on a place of ancient religious practices.
Near Monfalcone, particularly interesting is the First World War Theme Park, where you will discover the period between 1915 and 1918 and you will walk among trenches and communication trenches. The Park is linked with C.A.I. (Italian Alpine Club) paths, cartroads and trenches to the open-air Museum of the defence area of the Dolina dei Bersaglieri, to the open-air Museum of San Martino del Carso and to the open-air Museum of Mount San Michele.
In the town centre, the renovated building of the old indoor market houses the Town Gallery of Contemporary Art that since 2004 has been part of the AMACI - Association of Italian Museums of Contemporary Art, and is one of the biggest exhibition venues dedicated to Friuli Venezia Giulia's contemporary art.
