River Isonzo Mouth Reserve

The Foce dell'Isonzo Regional Nature Reserve is a unique natural environment that can be experienced and explored in many different ways!

Choose one of the guided tour routes: the classic loop (two kilometers) or the United World trail and loop (six kilometers), and explore freshwater marshes, vast saltwater wetlands, reed beds, forests, and meadows. The starting point is the visitor center, one of the most important educational, scientific, and naturalistic sites internationally, located in the heart of the Reserve, on the Cona Island.

Recognized as the best area in Italy for birdwatching, the Foce dell'Isonzo Reserve is the ideal habitat for many animal species, especially for resident and migratory birds. You can hide in one of the many observation huts for a privileged view of the local birdlife, or rent one of the four photography hides for the entire day to focus on photographing colorful bee-eaters or other species inhabiting the reserve.

The integrity of the area is ensured through ongoing environmental efforts and is also supported by the animals themselves, such as the Camargue horses, which roam freely in the Reserve and help control the growth of vegetation. You can participate in activities to approach the horses in their habitat, suitable even for young children, take horseback riding lessons, or go on real horseback excursions within the Reserve.

Since its establishment in 1996, the Reserve has developed services and facilities to welcome visitors to the final part, known as Cona Island, which can only be visited on foot with an entrance ticket. There are also cycling paths in the surrounding area, allowing easy access to areas of great natural value, such as the Alberoni Woods.

Additionally, within the Reserve, it is possible to book canoe tours along the water bodies, accompanied by an expert natural guide.
