Torri di Slivia Cave

Discover one of the wonders of the Trieste Karst and its famous formations with stalagmites reaching up to 8 meters high: the Towers of Slivia, from which the cave takes its name.
The Torri di Slivia cave is considered, thanks to the incredible richness of concretions, one of the wonders of the Trieste Karst. It has been known for a long time and the number 22 identifying the regional cadastre indicates that this was among the first to be explored on the Karst among the over 3,000 caves currently registered. It became a tourist site in the mid-sixties.There are two entrances: a natural pothole about 30 meters deep, from which you can descend only with speleological equipment, and an artificial entrance that, through a staircase of 200 steps, leads to the heart of the cave, about 60 meters underground .
The cavity expands into rooms filled with beautiful concretions, with stalagmites, up to 8 meters high and even 10 tons heavy. The cave takes the name from the famous “the towers of Slivia”, a group of eight concretions of different sizes.
The guided tours starts at the Torri di Slivia farmhouse, where visitors are transported by tractor (agribus) to the secret door in the woods that hides the entrance to the cave, and then continues on foot always with the guide.
Admission includes:
Guided tour, transportation with Agribus to the entrance of the cave and back, audio guides available in English, Slovenian, German, Dutch, Slovak, Russian, Chinese, Spanish and Hungarian.
