Monte San Michele Museum: The memory of the First World War lives again in an immersive museum.

An interactive experience to discover and experience the Great War:

The Monte San Michele Museum offers an interactive multimedia exhibition, with a highly experiential approach, based on the use of immersive digital tools and content to convey to visitors not only information, but also emotions. Through virtual reality, visitors enjoy an immersive and engaging experience, evoking the most salient moments of the First World War along the Karst front, through the memories of those who experienced this terrible page of history first hand.

Two touch screens delve into the themes linked to the conflict: an interactive table allows visitors to consult themed maps, illustrating the evolution of the front during the war years, both in the Gorizia area and at a European level; the second touch screen presents a three-dimensional reconstruction of the Cima 3 gunboat, allowing visitors to virtually explore all its tunnels, today not completely accessible, and to discover its construction secrets. Outside the Museum, using a special mobile App, it is possible to discover the hidden trenches on the Karst and live an immersive experience in augmented reality inside the gunboat.

The Monumental War Zone ‘Monte San Michele’, in the Municipality of Sagrado, a sacred area since 1922, is owned by the State Public Property and handed over to the Ministry of Defence - Office for the Protection of Defence Culture and Memory. Since 2016, the management of the area has been entrusted to the Municipality of Sagrado, which has committed itself with great dedication to enhancing the area with the aim of preserving its memory and increasing the public's interest in this place, guaranteeing the opening of the entire external area, of the Museum dedicated to the Great War and of the gunports. With this in mind, thanks to the valuable collaboration with the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia, in 2018 the Monte San Michele Museum was refurbished in an innovative digital key as part of the goGreen project (www.carigogreen.com).
