The Emperor's Tomb – Unable to Die 1/3

The Emperor's Tomb – Unable to Die 1/3

On 16 September 2025 at 19:00, Mittelfest Festival will host The Emperor's Tomb, the first part of the trilogy Inabili alla morte / Nezmožni umreti, (Unable to Die).

The theatre play is produced by Mittelfest and part of the of GO! 2025 official programme. After its debut at the Teatro Verdi in Gorizia on 11 May 2024, the show returns and opens the three-day marathon of the Nezmožni umreti / Inabili alla Morte (Unable to Die) project from 16 to 18 September (more information at www.mittelfest.org).

In Joseph Roth's The Emperor's Tomb, directed by Giacomo Pedini, Natalino Balasso features Francesco Ferdinando Trotta, a young Slovenian nobleman and the protagonist of Joseph Roth's famous novel, in a story that traces the history of Europe in the first half of the 20th century, from the Great War to the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1938.

Trotta is an awkward viveur, overwhelmed as much by inner upheavals as by the events of history, in an era of great change between dissolute friendships, decaying nobles, failed soldiers, tyrannical mothers, ambiguous relationships, adventurers and braggarts, against the backdrop of a shattered Central European world.

Tickets will be available soon at www.mittelfest.org
