Unable to Die is a Slovenian-Italian trilogy designed by Giacomo Pedini (also the director of two performances) for Mittelfest, offering an insight into the history of the 20th century from the point of view of the eastern-western border. Pedini came as inspiration for the trilogy in Joseph Roth's novel The Emperor’s Tomb, which is also the title of the first part of the trilogy and was staged in May 2024. In November 2024, the second part, In Search of the Lost Language by Goran Vojnović (directed by Janusz Kica), came to life on the stage of the Slovenian National Theatre in Nova Gorica, and in 2025, the trilogy will conclude with the play Dawn after the End of History, based on the text by Paolo di Paolo. The project will experience its peak with the staging of the entire trilogy between 16 and 18 September 2025, in Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The trilogy consists of three theatre plays, six radio plays (three in Italian, three in Slovenian) and a book in Italian and Slovenian.
