Marko Bratuš – artistic director of SNG Nova Gorica – and GO! 2025 collaborate together in promoting Slovenian theater beyond borders. In Italy, Europe, and worldwide.
Marko Bratuš graduated in Dramaturgy in 2005 from the Academy of Theater, Radio, Film, and Television in Ljubljana. The following year, he enrolled in the master's program in Radio Directing. He has directed studio broadcasts for the web (the online media Vest), cultural programs (Radio Slovenia), and has produced several documentary films ("Elena", "Hoja po vodi", "Topol"). He has also worked as a screenwriter and professional selector in the field of amateur theater, and many also know him as a musician ("Smaal Tokk" certainly sounds familiar to people from Primorska). The tragicomedy "Najboljša evropska predstava" (The Best European Performance), of which Bratuš is a co-author, was nominated for the Slavko Grum Award 2024 in early April.
Since November 2019, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the international theater network ETC (European Theatre Convention). Just last week, international guests from all over Europe attended the annual ETC conference, organized in Nova Gorica by SNG in collaboration with GO! 2025. At the same time, the Young Europe: Youth Theatre Festival took place, bringing together leading European theater professionals and offering numerous performances prepared by young people from all over Europe.
As part of the European Capital of Culture 2025, the cooperation between the Theater of Nova Gorica and Bratuš is also reflected through the DESTINYation project: 12 theater performances directed by Tomi Janžič, the first of which premiered in Timișoara, Romania. In co-production with the Italian Mittelfest, they are also working on the theatrical trilogy "Inabili alla Morte" (Nezmožni umreti): the first part, entitled "The Emperor’s Tomb", will be staged on May 11th.
