BridA: "The ECoC represents an incredible opportunity for our city and the entire region."
Graduates of the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, the BridA collective has been active since 1996. They create artworks spanning a wide range of contemporary artistic practices, exhibiting both locally and internationally. Over the years, they have participated in numerous international residency programmes, workshops, and seminars. In 2015, the collective marked its 20th anniversary by receiving the France Bevk Award, the highest honour bestowed by the City Municipality of Nova Gorica. In 2018, their achievements were further recognised with the prestigious international Tesla Award.
Do artistic interventions like Christmas Lights with the LuMenArtist collective foster a sense of community? How do you feel as initiators of this festive togetherness?
"During the festive season, our primary focus is on resting and spending time with friends and loved ones—something we often lack due to the demands of our work throughout the year. In this sense, we use the festive period to strengthen relationships within our micro-community.
However, our ever-restless artistic spirit and creative drive never truly rest. We’re delighted to bring even a small amount of joy to the wider community. At a time when we need to nurture deeper connections with others and ourselves, we encourage people to pause, take in the projections and light installations, and momentarily escape the relentless pace of daily life. Seeing people immerse themselves in the colours and enjoy the experience is always a highlight for us."
What does the European Capital of Culture mean to you? Do you feel it has elevated the R.o.R residencies and festival?
"The ECoC represents an incredible opportunity for our city and the entire region to advance established cultural programmes while presenting and developing new projects to shape our future. It also sheds light on areas that need improvement or recalibration.
Above all, we’re grateful for the years leading up to 2025, which have fostered many new connections, strengthened existing collaborations, and opened up numerous opportunities for growth and development.
During the festive season, however, we try not to think too much about the future. Instead, we aim to make it to Friday, take a breath, and fully embrace moments of peace."

"Here’s a little secret: in 2026, BridA will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Let’s keep it between us so no one calls us old!
To all those embarking on a cultural and artistic journey, we say: enjoy every moment! You’re in one of the most beautiful professions in the world, and in tough times, always remember that. Keep going—everything will be fine!"
