Museum Tuesday Evening: Stories from Behind the Wire of Miren Cemetery

Martedì sera al museo: Storie dietro il filo del cimitero di Miren

The Museum Tuesday Evening will be dedicated to recalling the memories of post-war life of the inhabitants at the border.

After the recent opening of the exhibition "Vsemir –  the border at the Miren Cemetery", the locals who shared their stories in video interviews will be the guests of the Museum Tuesday Evening at Kromberk Castle, where they will recall the almost unbelievable experiences and fates of their loved ones, who have been shaped by the border since 1947. The author of the collection, ethnologist Rok Bavčar, will present the message of the new exhibition in the collection of the Museum on the Border in Miren.

People were no longer allowed to bury their loved ones on the other side of the border and were no longer allowed to meet. The exception was 1 November, when everyone was allowed to come to the cemetery. In reality, this day was more for the living than for the dead. Even though the cemetery was heavily guarded, people could at least see each other, secretly tell each other something or throw an object across the border. Sometimes, too, someone took the opportunity to try to escape across the border in search of a new and better life.

The meeting will take place on 11 February at 19:00 at Kromberk Castle.
