Borderless Body is a groundbreaking artistic initiative that has infused Nova Gorica and the surrounding region with creative energy over the past three years, thanks to the continuous presence of an international dance ensemble. Under the artistic direction of Michal Rynia and Nastja Bremec Rynia, the ensemble has delved into the intricate relationship between the human body, its spatial, physical, and mental limits, and the rapidly evolving realms of artificial intelligence and technology. Their work has led to a rich body of creations, including performances, short choreographies, and dance films such as To the Moon and Back, Distance, Boundless Diptych, F-Lights, Prometheus, A-Line, and Drop.
The culmination of this journey, a performance titled Borderless Body, will take place in the evocative post-apocalyptic setting of the Solkan Quarry. This stark yet strikingly monumental landscape mirrors the complexities of contemporary human existence—caught between the seductive pull of an increasingly digitalized and individualized world and the yearning for freedom and the comforting embrace of community.
The performance promises a multisensory experience, weaving together mesmerizing visuals, expressive movement, and music that bridges contemporary poetics with reality and the realm of imagination. The original score by Duo Silence – Primož Hladnik and Boris Benko – will accompany this exploration, drawing from their diverse repertoire that spans classical music, electronic compositions, and collaborations with Laibach, as well as acclaimed works for theater and film.
More than just a dance performance, Borderless Body is a profound inquiry into the limits that shape our existence and guide our future. It unfolds as a narrative arc of contemporary dance, reflecting on the breathtaking advances of technology and the enigmatic possibilities of artificial intelligence. This is a performance that challenges boundaries while provoking reflection on the human condition in a rapidly evolving world.
