In 2025 the Alpe Adria Cinema Association, through its most important event, the Trieste Film Festival, will dedicate two appointments to GO! 2025, Nova Gorica - Gorizia European Capitals of Culture 2025. The first appointment will take place during the 36th edition of the Trieste Film Festival, on 20 January, with a Panel entitled Let's GO! 2025: Multilingual European Capitals of Culture. Tracing the linguistic diversity of ECoCs / Tracing the linguistic diversity of European capitals of Culture The event will aim to analyse the topic of bilingualism (or in some cases examined, multilingualism).

The aim is to understand how the European Capital of Culture event has contributed (or will contribute) to strengthening and uniting the language communities within the same territory, and what practices have been initiated or still persist. Representatives of the following European Capitals of Culture will be invited to the panel: 2007: Sibiu (Romanian and Hungarian) 2019: Plovdiv (Bulgarian, Turkish, Armenian, Romani) 2023: Timișoara (Romanian and Hungarian) 2025: Chemnitz (German and Sórabic) 2025: Nova Gorica and Gorizia (Italian and Slovenian + Friulian) The representatives of these capitals will be called upon to recount their experiences as bilingual/multilingual cities, to share their experiences and practices aimed at multilingual communication of cultural events, at the multi-identity strengthening of a territory and at greater inclusiveness of its ethnic and cultural minorities.

The second appointment will instead take place in Gorizia, on 20 and 21 March 2025, with a SPIN OFF of the Trieste Film Festival that will bring to the European capital of culture a part of the retrospective curated by university lecturer Francesco Pitassio entitled LA GUERRA È FINITA? TRAUMI, ROVINE, RECONSTRUCTION - 1945-2025: a selection of films shot between 1945 and 1949 that document a historical moment in which modes of production, forms of representation, channels of circulation and identities and languages are reorganised, in order to directly or indirectly account for the trauma that the conflict generated in European cinema. The programme will include a combination of a fiction feature film and a non-fiction film, with the aim of giving an account of the documentary intentions on the long legacy of the war, but also of the imagery and narratives to deal with it. Each programme is introduced by some considerations and instructions for use by scholars of film, contemporary history and cultural history.
