Maja Haderlap and Leonie Humitsch

Maja Haderlap and Leonie Humitsch

Dance and literary event in Ingeborg Bachmann Dome.

Music and dance alike search for clarity and grounding amid rising contradictions and futile doublings: when "cold flares up in the limbs", "dead silence plays melodies", and "dark shadows endlessly spin around".

At the core of the performance is the act of sweeping outwards—both in the literal and figurative sense—exploring inner processes, things that move, frighten, or relieve us. The Ingeborg Bachmann Dome serves as an additional dimension in this context, constantly requiring the dancer and the pianist to move from inside of the dome to the outside—together, in opposition, alternately, and alone.

The performance draws inspiration from one of Ingeborg Bachmann’s few unpublished poems, Ängste (Fears), written in 1945. The two artists take up fragments of the text and the associated metaphors and associations, encountering each other within and around the dome.

Maja Haderlap is a bilingual Austrian-Carinthian and Slovenian poet and writer, who also works as a university lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt. She writes poems, novels, essays, radio plays, drama adaptations and opera texts, and has published in Slovenian and German journals. She is best known for her novel Engel des Vergessens (Angel of Forgetfulness) and her poetry collection Langer transit (Long Passage).

Leonie Humitsch holds a Master's degree in Dance Pedagogy from the University of Vienna and works as a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. She works under the dance label feitanz in Austria, Germany and Switzerland and participates in international festivals.
