Marijan Mirt, born in 1975, holds a Master's degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His artistic practice focuses on sculpture, painting and art pedagogy. He has exhibited his work in more than twenty solo exhibitions as the author of numerous public sculptures at home and abroad.
The artist explores the complexity of urban spaces, where animals become a symbol of modern man burdened by the problems of civilisation. His works raise provocative questions about the nature of the relationship between man and the environment, reflecting the cruelty and inevitability of our choices. Despite the past we carry, the artist challenges us to confront our present and future, forcing us to look into the mirror of our reality.
Mirt is a multi-award-winning artist who received the Gold Medal for Sculpture at the Salon des Beaux Arts (Paris) in 2017 and 2022. His achievements also include the Taylor Foundation Award (Paris) in 2024, the Glazer Charter in 2023, the Rihard Jakopič Award in 2020, and the DLUM Award four times.
He is a member of the Maribor Fine Artists' Association (DLUM), the Association of Slovenian Fine Artists' Societies (ZDSLU) and the Croatian Artists' Association for Fine and Applied Arts (ULUPUH). He lives and works in Maribor.
