Down by the River: Unveiling of the "Nekaj od mnogih" Sculpture

Zveza Mink Tolmin, GO! 2025, and the Municipality of Tolmin present the unveiling of the "Nekaj od mnogih" sculpture by academic sculptor Marijan Mirt. 

The concept originates from the sculpture workshops at Sajeta festival, where the artist demonstrated the flexibility of sculpture by transforming human figures into anthropomorphic forms with rabbit heads. The three figures represent the loss of individuality and the monotony of modern life. The work blends traditional sculpting techniques with modern technologies such as 3D printing, addressing both aesthetic and social issues.

Born in 1975, Marijan Mirt holds a master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His practice spans sculpture, painting, and art education, with over twenty solo exhibitions to his credit. His work often explores the complexity of urban spaces and the nature of the relationship between humans and their environment. Mirt is an award-winning artist, having been awarded the Gold Medal for Sculpture at the Salon des Beaux Arts (Paris) in 2017 and 2022, as well as Taylor Foundation Prize (Paris) in 2024, the Glazer Charter in 2023, the Rihard Jakopič Prize in 2020, and the DLUM Prize four times. He is a member of the Maribor Fine Artists' Association (DLUM), the Association of Slovenian Fine Artists' Societies (ZDSLU) and the Croatian Artists' Association for Fine and Applied Arts (ULUPUH). He lives and works in Maribor.

This work is part of the Down by the River project within the official programme of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia. The installation and unveiling were supported by the Municipality of Tolmin. The lead partner of the project is the Tolmin Mink Association in cooperation with its partner Associazione ECOPark from Italy.
