Fino al 18/06/2024

"Europe: the historical roots of a complex present" is the title of an event scheduled for Tuesday 18 June, at 6 pm, at the Ridotto of the Kulturni dom in Gorizia. Its protagonist will be historian Guido Crainz, who will dialogue with the director of the Accademia Europeista del Friuli Venezia Giulia, Alex Pessotto. On the occasion, Crainz's book ‘Shadows of Europe. Nationalisms, memories, political uses of history'. We read in the notes accompanying the book: "How can we imagine the future of Europe in the midst of the tensions that are running through it and after an invasion of Ukraine that has forced it to question itself again about its raison d'être and its role? And what can the engagement of culture be in this scenario? It is necessary to ask ourselves in depth about the cracks and tensions that had already taken shape before 1989 and then in its aftermath, in the difficult transition of the former communist countries and in the emergence of illiberal and anti-European nationalisms".
