Impulse for the Soča

Unveiling of the statue.

Down by the River is a project creating a lasting artistic mark along the Soča River with sculptures that celebrate cross-border connections. Artists transform the landscape into a unique sculptural trail.

Join us for the unveiling of ORG CXXI – Impulse for the Soča by Boštjan Kavčič, a tribute to the harmony of nature and art.

Impulse for the Soča is one of the ORGanisms (ORGanism CXXI) that the author has been creating for more than 20 years, representing living beings. Unfortunately, Boštjan's original idea to place the ORGanism directly in the river, to give back to the river the power that is taken away from it by the hydroelectric dams when they interrupt its natural path and thus its full life, did not materialise. The five-tonne stone sculpture, shaped in the sinus form of a heartbeat, into which the artist has woven a kilometre and a half of lines beating in time with the rhythm of the Soca, is placed just above the Soča riverbed in Kanal ob Soči. In this way, it retains its original meaning and its deep connection with the nature that surrounds it.

One of the sculptor's original ideas is fulfilled in the fact that stone as a natural material is taken from nature, informed (processed) and returned to nature.
