The European Capital of Culture comes to the eternal city
The GO! 2025 programme was presented this morning in Rome at a press conference at the Foreign Press Association in Italy, Palazzo Grazioli.
After the greetings by the two mayors Samo Turel (Nova Gorica) and Rodolfo Ziberna (Gorizia), and the President of the EGTC GO Paolo Petiziol, the contents of the programme were presented by the director of the EGTC GO Romina Kocina, the director of the Javni zavod GO! 2025 Mija Lorbek and the programme director of GO! 2025 Stojan Pelko.
The press conference finished with speeches by the State secretary for Culture of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia Marko Rusjan and the President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia Massimiliano Fedriga.
The importance of this project, which unites two cities and two nations in a common vision, was emphasised by several speakers.
The conference was centered on the official GO! 2025 programme, the accompanying GO! 2025 & Friends programme and the many GO! 2025 activities. Of course, special attention was paid to the 8th February, the official opening of the European Capital of Culture.
Some of the most eagerly awaited events, in addition to the official programme that runs along four main themes - War and Peace, The Creation of the New, Smugglers and Very Green - include international concerts such as Thirty Seconds to Mars, Massive Attack, Alanis Morissette and Robbie Williams, which will enliven the most prestigious locations in the area, photographic exhibitions by world-famous artists such as Steve McCurry and Meta Krese, who explore the complexity of the border through the lens, theatrical and film events, including Anja Medved's docufilm on the witnesses of World War II and director Tomi Janežič's transgenerational docu-fiction, and Gusti senza Frontiere, which returns from 26 to 28 September in a cross-border format in Gorizia but also on the neighbouring Slovenian side.
