Patti Smith at the new concert venue in Gorizia

Romina Kocina, Director of EGTC GO
5. 10. 2023 Piazzale della Casa Rossa, Gorizia There are no tickets or entrance fees.   In preparation for the upcoming European Capital of Culture, we are also looking forward to a good concert selection - in October, in addition to the British band Editors, the American singer-songwriter, poet and "Godmother of Punk" Patti Smith will perform at a new concert venue in Gorizia. The concert will be free of charge and will take place on October 5, 2023 in the parking lot next to the former border crossing in Rožna Dolina.   Patti Smith had this to say about the upcoming concert: "I’m looking forward to perform in the future capital of culture. I can’t think of a better name to go borderless than the Valley of Roses, uniting Italian city of Gorizia and Slovene city of Nova Gorica. Coming to the region where Pasolini, Kosovel and Rilke were writing their poems is a great inspiration for me. I hope soon that I will be writing poems as well as performing there with you. I will see you on October 5th! Go borderless, what a beautiful concept … and the Valley of Roses, I can already sense the scent of unity."   Patti Smith is one of the leading figures of the global art scene - as a musician, visual artist and activist, she has made rock and roll history. Her career, regardless of the diversity of genres, is characterised by constants such as (self-)will, rebellion, defiance, justice, truthfulness, etc. Her debut album, Horses, released in 1975, was a fusion of poetry and musical accompaniment, and her career features many hits, including albums such as "Easter", which includes the famous song "Because the Night" that she co-wrote with Bruce Springsteen, and "Dream of Life", which includes the song "People Have the Power" that she co-wrote with her late husband Fred Sonic Smith. Patti Smith has been nominated for four Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe, and has received numerous awards throughout her career. In 2010, she won the prestigious National Book Award for her best-selling book "Just Kids" in which she tells the story of her deep friendship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and the evolution of their work. Her highly acclaimed books are also "M Train" and "Devotion."
