The GO! 2025 sailboat Barraonda finished in 12th place at the 56th edition of Barcolana
Named after the Slovenian village of Barkovlje, Barcolana is considered the largest group-start regatta in the world. This year’s edition, the 56th in a row, took place on Sunday, 13 October 2024. Barraonda, a sailboat with the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 logo, featured a mixed, Slovene-Italian crew, capturing the spirit of borderlessness. Led by Lucio Provvidenti, the team of the 40-foot racing sailboat finished in an excellent 12th place among 1757 sailboats and won in its category for the ninth year in a row.
Starting near Barcola, the sailboats first headed towards Muggia, them to Miramar, before finishing in front of Trieste’s Piazza Unita. The regatta was about two hours long. The overall winner was a sailboat named Arca.
Lucio Provvidenti, Barraonda team leader, explained: “Our slogan Born to Win unites the lovers of the sea and sailing who have combined their passions to put Barraonda on the sailing map. Our sailboat tells the story of an open world, a team based on companionship, persistence, discipline and the spirit of community, as well as teamwork, where it doesn’t matter who speaks which language.”
