De-colonising the museum: workshops for museum operators, educators

De-colonising the museum: workshops for museum operators, educators

Workshops for museum operators, educators.

Starting from the experience of the artist and curator Banji Chona (Zambia, 1997), and with the logic of wanting to promote a collective action that traces post-colonial presences and testimonies in the places of cultural and ethnographic heritage, a workshop dedicated to educators, teachers, museum operators, curators, art therapists, students of educational sciences and cultural organisers, which aims to detect the violence inscribed in the museum practices still in vogue, and to defuse them through the new tools of cultural participation.

With Banji Choona's creative liberation exercises, participants will take part in a re-writing workshop of museum practices, in the logic of experimenting with new forms of contact and investigation of cultural, ethnographic and artistic heritage that can nurture diversity and divergent points of view in museums and archives.

The methodologies learnt can be replicated in different contexts: museum visits, school or extra-curricular creative workshops, art-therapy sessions.
