Join us for an evening discussion on 22 May at 19:00 at Rustjeva hiša kruha, where our guests—Ines Beguš, curator and historian from the Goriški Museum and researcher of industrial heritage in the Vipava Valley, and Jožef Krečič, amateur historian with a passion for the milling and baking heritage of the same region,—will explore the past and provide insights into the development of industry in Ajdovščina and the influence of the Hubelj’s water power as an energy source for a variety of manufacturing activities.

We’ll walk through the stream of time and alongside the actual river, speaking of forges, water wheels and hydro plants, of Lipa and the Paper Mill, of Jochmann’s mill and today’s Mlinotest, of Ika and Tekstina and many other names of industrial heritage that remain alive in the town’s and its people’s memory. No water, no life—and without the Hubelj Stream, there would be no Ajdovščina as we know it today. Discussion evening aims to answer the following questions: Why is Ajdovščina such a strong industrial town today? Why have such diverse industries—food, wood, textile, and many others—developed here over the centuries? How were companies born, how did they thrive, and how did some come to an end? What role did the waterways, especially the Hubelj Stream, play in all of this?
