Ingeborg Bachmann Dome – opening

Ingeborg Bachmann Dome – opening

The Ingeborg Bachmann Dome is an artwork to walk through, touch, and transform.

It serves as a space for reflection and a meeting point for various art forms, dedicated to the Austrian writer and poet Ingeborg Bachmann. The concept for the dome was developed by Armin Guerino and Gerhard Fresacher. The dome was designed and built by Armin Guerino, while the soundtrack inside was created by Gerhard Fresacher and Anna Ennemoser.

The non-factual, art, requires spaces and time frames in which the facts that make up the world can be recognized. To fill the Ingeborg-Bachmann Dome with music means to acoustically expand this space of thought into a space of resonance.

As a festival for classical music, the Carinthian Summer Festival is committed to the non-factual. The intangible, momentarily emerging and fading music finds here a resonance space, a space of experience that enables insights into the state of the world. The Carinthian Summer Festival pursues this significant aim as a festival that has, since 1969, annually invited artists from all over the world to Carinthia to experience music, literature, and discourse at the highest level.

As part of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia programme, the Carinthian Summer Festival will present its resident ensemble, the Vienna Company of Music under the direction of Johannes Hiemetsberger, in the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Dome. The virtuosic and agile vocal soloist ensemble will engage in a dialogue with the space and the audience through various formations of vocal-musical reflections. It opens ears to new music as well as to discoveries of cultural heritage.

The project is managed by the Kupplung-Sklopka-Accoppiamento cultural association.

The dome is on temporary loan from the Carinthian Cultural Foundation for the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia.
