This Saturday, September 7, we officially opened our new communications office in the heart of Nova Gorica, as well as unveiled the statue of Edvard Rusjan with a flypast.
The programme, moderated by GO! 2025 artistic advisor Neda Rusjan Bric, started with the unveiling of the Edvard Rusjan bust. As art historian Klavdija Figelj explained, academic painter Bojan Štokelj created the statue for the 100th anniversary of Rusjan’s birth in 1986. A flypast by Slovenian Armed Forces aircraft, narrated by Tomi Ilijaš, Nova Gorica Aero Club pilot, commemorated the unveiling, and the beginning of the event was announced by a police helicopter landing in front of the Municipal Palace.
The opening ceremony started with the ECOC anthem, performed by the Nova Gorica Wind Orchestra. Next, the Director of the GO! 2025 Public Institute Mija Lorbek, and the Mayor of the Municipality of Nova Gorica Samo Turel delivered their speeches. As the director emphasized, the Communications Office provides an official centre of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorica with as many as four essential functions. Firstly, the office will offer printed materials and information on programmes and supporting events of the ECOC and will provide counselling for NGOs on applying for proposals. Furthermore, the office will be devoted to the volunteering platform, and serve as an information point for GO! 2025, open every day between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m.
