ERIK FRIEDLANDER’S »THE THROW« Cellist Erik Friedlander comes to Villa Vipolže, on Sunday, 27 October at 2 PM, with his new album Dirty Boxing, with which he 'ventures into the music ring', transforming 'dirty boxing' into an enchanting experience that explores unexpected parallels between the disciplined art of music and the strategic struggle of mixed martial arts. He and his musical companions offer powerful musical blends of intensity and grace with a touch of martial spirit, creating a sound that is sure to both astonish and even derail you a little. The emotional depth of Dirty Boxing is a testament to the power of creativity and the unexplored connections between music and the physicality of combat sports. This is an album that not only challenges norms, but also celebrates the beauty of different worlds coming together. All members of The Throw are respected musicians of the 'downtown scene'. Pianist Uri Caine is known as an exceptional leader of various groups, whose masterful reworking of classical legacy pieces is his own. He has performed with musicians such as Dave Douglas, Arto Lindsay and John Zorn. Bassist Mark Helias has played with original members of Ornette Coleman's band and many musicians associated with the AACM, and has released six solo albums. Drummer Ches Smith has worked with artists as diverse as Fred Frith, The Secret Chiefs and the rock band Xiu Xiu. He has also written for small and large jazz ensembles and has released solo percussion albums under his own name.   Lead partner/co-organiser of the event: Kulturni dom Nova Gorica.
