Cross-Border Bus Routes Between Nova Gorica and Gorizia in the Year of ECoC

Two cross-border bus lines connect Nova Gorica and Gorizia during the year of European Capital of Culture, enabling better connectivity and easier transfer between the two cities.

The existing cross-border bus line connecting Gorica Centrale Railway and Bus Station (I), Nova Gorica Railway Station and Nova Gorica Bus Station will now run on a half-hourly frequency, with additional morning and evening runs. The new cross-border line, also with half-hourly frequency, connects broader area: the Gorizia Centrale Railway and Bus Station, the Nova Gorica Railway Station, Solkan, the Nova Gorica Bus Station, Rafut Park, Rožna Dolina and Šempeter pri Gorici. Both lines operate all days of the year, making it easier and more affordable for residents and visitors to travel between the two cities.

A single ticket costs €1.70 and a day ticket €3.40. Purchase of a day ticket allows you to travel on both cross-border lines. The first cross-border service is operated by an Italian operator with electric vehicles. Cashless ticket purchase is possible on the bus. The second cross-border line is operated by a Slovenian carrier, cash purchase of the ticket is possible on the bus. Children up to 10 years of age accompanied by a family member with a valid ticket travel free of charge.

At the same time, during the year of European Capital of Culture, the Italian provider operates a direct cross-border service between Trieste Airport - Gorizia - Nova Gorica. Services on this route run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A single ticket also costs €1.70 on the Nova Gorica - Gorizia route and €5.60 on the Nova Gorica - Trieste Airport route. On this route children up to 10 years of age travel free of charge when accompanied by a family member with a valid ticket as well. This initiative represents an important step towards sustainable mobility and strengthens the connection between the two cities, which continue to strengthen their common future in the spirit of the European Capital of Culture 2025.
