In Nova Gorica, between France Bevk Public Library and the Slovenian National Theatre of Nova Gorica, we opened a panel exhibition in preparation for the launch of the European Capital of Culture. It is called Faces of GO! 2025, as it presents some of the most prominent actors of the ECoC.
The 20 panels present the faces behind the leading projects that will take place in Nova Gorica and Gorizia next year. The exhibition will take you through the four main topics of the ECoC - War and Peace, Creation of the New, Smugglers and Very Green. The very first panel features Neda Rusjan Bric, the ECoC mastermind and director of the opening ceremony, who is joined by the other "people behind the scenes" in the picture on the penultimate panel. The exhibition also includes a map with the most important venues of the conurbation.
In the first topic, War and Peace, we get to know Maša Klavora, Director of the Walk of Peace in the Soča Reagion Foundation and the author of the Walk of Peace project. This cross-border cultural and tourism trail along the former Soča front, encourages us to come together and find new ways of cooperating. On the next panel, we encounter the renowned painter and graphic artist Zoran Mušič, whose opera is presented in the framework of the Mušič project, and the author of the project, Nelida Nemec. The other two faces behind the War and Peace subprogramme are Kaja Širok, project manager of EPIC, the European Platform for the Interpretation of the 20th Century, and Anja Medved, co-founder of the KINOkašča / CINEMattic Institute and author of numerous war documentaries.
In the next subprogramme, Creation of the New, we will first discover what Nova Gorica would look like today if its original design by Edvard Ravnikar had not been held back by political and financial obstacles. The next project, Basaglia, presents the work of the revolutionary antipsychiatrist Franco Basaglia. Other faces in this subgroup include Tomi Janežič, who will mark the ECoC year with his Dodecalogy 1972-1983, and the renowned fashion designer Matea Benedetti, who is preparing a sustainable fashion show GO! 2025 x Benedetti Life especially for the ECoC.
In the Smugglers subgroup, Nastja Bremec Rynia and Michal Rynia, founders of the contemporary dance ensemble MN Dance Company, will present their project Borderless Body. Next to them is Mattia Cason, one of the faces of the Your Border is My Border project, which strives for a more united, open Europe. With the international cross-border contemporary dance festival Visavì, which is led by Walter Mramor every year, Nova Gorica and Gorizia will once again be transformed into a true dance conurbation next year. Tomaž Kavčič will provide culinary delicacies with his project Dinner as an Artistic Experience.
The last subprogramme, Very Green, features the film director Gregor Božič, whose project Atlas of Forgotten Orchards will connect traditional orchard landscapes and spaces of imagination. Saša Dobričić, the responsible for the ECoC spatial strategy, will work to create a new, greener map of the municipality with her project Green Points and Movement. The last panel features Marko Peljhan, an established researcher in transdisciplinary arts, who is preparing a project and series of installations ISOLABS for GO! 2025.
We would like to warmly invite you to take a look at the exhibition and get to know more about the faces of the many cultural events that will light up the streets in Nova Gorica and Gorizia next year!
